Willis Raymond McCartney

Willis Raymond McCartney, 95, of Salem, WV, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2017, in United Hospital Center of Bridgeport following a brief illness.
He was born in Beans Mill of Upshur County on August 14, 1922, son of the late Aaron McCartney and Olive McCartney McCartney. On November 13, 1965, he married Maysel Olene (Waldeck) McCartney, who preceded him in death on May 25, 2011.
Mr. McCartney is survived by two daughters: Debra Harrison and husband Frank of Salem and Susan Louise McCartney and companion Jack Sutphin of Fairmont, three sons: Raymond Junior McCartney and wife Phyllis of French Creek, Randall Eugene McCartney of Buckhannon and Alvy Robert McCartney and companion Patty of Jane Lew, 13 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.. He is also survived by one sister: Dortha Fisher and husband Rod of Weston. He is also survived by two very special folks in his life: Jamie Wise, friend and private nurse and his very special niece, Martha.In addition to his parents and wife, Maysel, Willis was preceded in death by an infant son, three brothers: James McCartney, Randall Haymond and Walker Haymond and four sisters: Vera Cosner, Vera Nottingham, Opal Crites and Mary Burr.
Mr. McCartney was a retired coal miner who worked for several companies in West Virginia which included Consol Coal Mine. He was a musician and was a guitarist with his own band which played all around the area. Willis was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church and a life time member of the United Mine Workers of America. Mr. McCartney was someone who brought joy to all who knew him.
Family and friends were received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home, at 730 North Main Avenue, Weston, on Saturday, October 21, 2017, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Funeral services were held on Saturday, at 1 p.m., at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel, with Reverend Kevin Bender officiating, Interment will follow services in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew.
