West Virginia American Water Accepting Applications for 2017 Firefighting Support Grants

Grants available to professional and volunteer fire departments in company’s service area

CHARLESTON—West Virginia American Water announced recently that applications are now being accepted for the company’s 2017 Firefighting Support Grant program. Grants awarded through this annual initiative provide funding assistance to fire and emergency organizations serving communities across the company’s service area.
Established in 2014, West Virginia American Water’s Firefighting Support Grant program awards funds to cover costs associated with purchasing personal protective gear, communications equipment, firefighting tools, water handling equipment, training and related activities and materials that will be used to support community fire protection.
Last year, West Virginia American Water contributed $10,000 to help six local fire departments purchase emergency gear, lifesaving equipment, training materials and essential firefighting apparatus.
“We created this grant program as a way to show our appreciation for the men and women who serve in our local fire departments and for the communities that count on them around the clock,” said Brian Bruce, president of West Virginia American Water.
“The very first water systems were developed for community fire protection, and West Virginia American Water is proud to give back to those who protect the communities where our customers and employees live and work.”
To qualify, applicants must provide a letter of application that includes the following:
—Contact information including name, email address and phone number
—Description of the organization(s) seeking support, including fire department name, address of fire department and county in which fire department is located
—Overview of the specific project to be funded
—Grant amount requested (maximum $1,000)
—Problems/challenges that the project will address
—Timeframe for implementation of the project
—Summary of budget and other funding sources being approached for support of the project
—An accompanying completed W-9 form
