Walk-In planned for Jan. 9

Today WV Governor Jim Justice is scheduled to deliver his State of the State address. WV teachers chose this day to hold a Walk-In to remind Justice and the WV Legislature that the fight is not over.
Lewis County teacher Wanda Barbo said the walk-in focuses on the failure of the task force to produce a solution for PEIA, the increasingly severe teacher shortage, continued lack of mental health and basic quality of life resources for WV students, lack of counselors and school social workers, and lack of school psychologists.
While the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), the WV School Service Personnel Association (WVSSPA), and the WV Education Association (WVEA) are not sponsoring the walk-in, but have stated they will support their respective members who choose to participate.
All three unions are planning to lobby during the legislative session, with each county having a designated day to be in Charleston.
Legislative talking points include PEIA, charters, vouchers, and education savings accounts, salary, and retirement.
