Robert L. Bland Middle School teacher Beckey Stalnaker addressed the local school board Monday regarding a recent conference she attended detailing traumatic brain injuries.
Stalnaker suggested that guidelines for management of head trauma be carried by physical education teachers as well as coaches, citing that injuries do not always happen during sports related play.
Stalnaker also asked that the board adopt a policy concerning brain trauma.
“I appreciate this. It’s something that impacts a lot of students,” Board member Debbie Clem said.
Steve Gawthorp with Momar, a chemical and drain maintenance company, said he would like to serve Lewis County Schools with drain maintenance.
An executive session was called concerning a personnel issue. A special personnel-only meeting is scheduled for Friday at noon. No action was taken during the executive session. The next regular BOE meeting will be May 22, at 7 p.m.
