Straley Elected as New Mayor, by Two Votes

Last Tuesday, Ruth Straley was elected the Town of Jane Lew’s Mayor, only defeating her opponent Phyllis Hinterer, by two votes.
Out of 242 registered voters in Precinct 12, only 63 cast their ballots in this municipal election. Whereas, in the 2013 Jane Lew Elections only 55 voters, participated in selecting their town’s governmental seats.
Only three citizens ran for the five council seats that were vacant, which means that once the mayor and new council take office, they will appoint two more members to the Town Council. Newly elected officials will take office on July 1.

Ballot Results:
Phyllis Hinterer: 31
Ruth Straley: 33

Jason Smith: 35
Kayla Neely: 42
Thomas Frazier: 55
