Patriots prep for season, receive helmet fitting

The Robert L. Bland Middle School Football team held a organizational meeting and professional helmet fitting at the RLBMS Athletic Complex Wednesday, July 25.
Joe Wiltsey with Zide’s Sporting Goods, who has been doing helmet fittings in West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and other states for over 20 years helped Patriot players protect themselves on the field by making sure their helmets fit properly.
RLBMS Head Football Coach nMatthew Gillespie noted that having helmets fitted by Zide’s, which also serves the needs of the West Virginia Mountaineers, helps provide a higher level of safety for the student athletes.
The football parents meeting ,took place during the fitting, with the football boosters electing officers and scheduling workers for the gates and concessions for the upcoming season.
Gillespie also noted that it’s not too late to join the team adding that any 6th, 7th or 8th grader at RLBMS or St. Pat’s, is still eligible to come out for the team.
They are eligible as long as they’ve been promoted and have a minimum 2.0 grade point average and the schools are still members of the West Virginia Secondary Schools Athletic Commission (WVSSAC)  Gillespie said that those interested should contact him via Facebook and added that information on the upcoming campaign  could be obtained from the RLBMS Football Boosters Facebook page.
The coach also added that players can still come out to the RLBMS Athletic Field Monday, August 6, but must have a completed physical on a WVSSAC form.
