Opal Marie Conrad, 60, of Walkersville, passed away at 5:30 a.m., on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown following an extended illness.
She was born in Braxton County on September 13, 1956, a daughter of the late Robert Friend and Virginia Hoover Friend.
On December 4, 1993, she married Jackie Lane Conrad who will miss her dearly after 23 years of marriage.
Her generous, caring nature will be carried on by her three children: Dusty Conrad and wife, Laraya, of Orlando, Robert Conrad and wife, Kyra, of Orlando, and Joshua Lee Conrad of Walkersville; eight grandchildren: Brooklyn, Nathan, Brenna, Taylor, Kadence, and Gabriella Conrad, Harley and Mason Detamore, Nathan Ables, and Colton; nine siblings: Ricky Friend and wife, Becky, of Heaters, Ronnie Friend of Parkersburg, Gary Friend of Boone County, Jimmy Friend of Shinnston, Vicky Hacker and husband, Zendle of Exchange, Angie Stout of Exchange, Polly Stout and husband, Donnie, of Glenville, Jeanetta Martin of Shanck, and Shelia Gripper of Clarksburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four siblings: Larry, David, and Jackie Friend and Brenda Brooks.
Opal worked as a nurse at the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston and provided loving, compassionate in-home adult care for the elderly of the community. She enjoyed crocheting, cross-stitching, fishing, flower and vegetable gardening and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Friends and family gathered at the Clover Fork United Methodist Church from noon to 2 p.m., on Saturday, April 15, 2017. Funeral Services followed at 2 p.m. with Rev. Donnie Stout officiating. Interment followed in the Short Cemetery in Clover Fork.
