Nelva Jean Brown, 88, of Weston, WV passed away peacefully on Monday, January 23, 2017 at the Braxton Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center at Sutton following a brief illness. Born August 16, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Springer Franklin and Blema Faye Westfall Hoard. Jean married Fleming Thomas Brown on March 1, 1950 and they were happily married for 58 years until his death in 2008. She was a USPS rural mail carrier retiring in 1994, member of the Murphy’s Creek Baptist Church, and was a homemaker. Jean was also preceded in death by her four brothers, Earl Hoard, Forest (Bud) Hoard, Springer Franklin Hoard, Jr., and Bencil Glen (Butch) Hoard; one sister, Janice Elaine Hoard; one grandson, Steven Robert Brown; two great-granddaughters, Prezlea Jean and Jaylen Loretta Pratt.
Jean is survived by three sons, Randall Clay Brown of Weston, James Michael Brown and wife Linda of Fredericksburg, VA, Matthew Brown and wife Judie of Weston; one daughter, Marcia Ann Oakman of Versailles, KY; four siblings, Herman Hoard of Weston, Dale Hoard of OH, Dixie Felix of SC, and Sarah Crews and husband Phil of Flatwoods, WV; 7 grandchildren, Amanda, Ben, Joey, Jeffery, Brandy, Ryan, and Suzanna, 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 26, 2017 in the Murphy’s Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Wease Day officiating. Interment will follow in the Weston Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Murphy’s Creek Baptist Church on Murphy’s Creek Road on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 from 5 to 8 PM.
