Nancy Ann Hughes


Nancy Ann Hughes, 86, of the Good Hope Community died at home, at 4:41 a.m., on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, in the presence of loved ones, including her husband of 66 years, and Susanna, the family cat, which sat stoically in the doorway at the time of her death.
She was born in the Good Hope Community of Harrison County on April 21, 1931, a daughter of the late William Brooks Nicholson and Macel Ruth McDonald Nicholson.
On March 8, 1951, she married Roy Martin Hughes who will dearly miss her companionship (as well as her homemade desserts).
She leaves a legacy of good-hearted, strong-willed integrity to her three children: Cecelia Ann Watson and husband, John, of Barrington, IL, David Martin Hughes of Jane Lew, and Ida Marie High and husband, Dave, of Good Hope; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one grandson.
Nancy graduated with honors from Salem College with her degree in Home Economics. She traveled extensively with her husband who served in the Air Force for 21 years, and chose to become a devoted homemaker, seamstress and baker. She was a member of the Good Hope CEOS, and the New Bethel United Methodist Women.
Friends and family gathered at the Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service at 144 Hackers Creek Rd., in Jane Lew, from 4-6 p.m., on Sunday, May 28. Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday from the Pat Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Destry Daniels officiating. Interment will follow in the Good Hope Masonic Cemetery.
