The Lewis County High School Minutemen hosted the North Marion Huskies Thursday, Oct. 4. The Minutemen scored early and often routing the Huskies 6-1 as severe weather threatened.
Earlier in the week the Minutemen had a game against East Fairmont suspended in the first half due to lightning.
The Minutemen got on the board first with an Anthony Aitchison goal just 13 minutes into the first half, Aitchison added a second goal 11 minutes later running onto a through-ball from midfield and burying the shot past the North Marion goalkeeper to give the Minutemen a 2-0 lead at the halftime whistle.
The floodgates opened for Lewis County in the second half with B.J. Flesher converting on a low line-drive shot from outside the 18 yard box, and his fellow central defensive midfielder Collin Dodson added another goal just two minutes later on a nifty chip shot that caught the Husky goalkeeper off his line and found the back of the net to move the score to 4-0. Anthony Aitchison got the hat trick with 22 minutes remaining in the game putting the ball past the North Marion goalie.
North Marion got their lone goal with 13 minutes remaining as LCHS coach Ryan Casto was resting his starters for the final stretch of the season.
Jeremiah Cruz added the final goal of the night with just six minutes remaining, using a give-and-go with Aitchison to break free for the score.
Lewis County then travelled to Herbert Hoover on Saturday and emerged with a 2-1 victory.
The Minutemen take an impressive 10-2-1 record into the final week of the season where they will travel to Buckhannon to take on the Bucs Tuesday, Oct 8, at 6 p.m. and will host Phillip-Barbour on Thursday at 5:30, before resuming the suspended game with a strong East Fairmont team on Saturday at 11 a.m.
