Minutemen Record a 7-8 for Season


Since the beginning of the New Year the Lewis County Minutemen varsity basketball team have been playing good basketball.
On Friday, January 20 the Minutemen would travel to Wheeling for a non conference game against the Wheeling Park Patriots. Lewis County would jump out to a 20-10 lead after one quarter of play.
An 18-8 second quarter scoring edge would send the game into the halftime break tied at 28-28. Lewis County would have the lead after the third quarter after they outscored Wheeling Park 15-10 to take a 43-38 lead into the final quarter of play.
The Minutemen would outscore the Patriots 19-16 in the fourth quarter and gain their third win in a row by defeating Wheeling Park 62-54.
Nate Frazier led Lewis County in scoring with 24 points while Thomas Hogan had 12 points and Jake Rahming added 10 points.
The Minutemen would then be at home on Tuesday, January 24 when they would host the Elkins Tigers in a Big Ten Conference matchup.
Lewis County would have the lead at 18-14 after one quarter of play. The Tigers would bounce back and take the lead at halftime by outscoring the Minutemen 21-12 in he second quarter to make the score at the half 35-30. Lewis County would outscore Elkins 18-16 in the third quarter to make the score 51-48 heading into the fourth quarter.
Elkins would hold on in the final quarter of play and end the three game Lewis County win streak by defeating the Minutemen 68-64. Nate Frazier had 23 points to pace the Minutemen scoring attack while Jake Rahming had 13 points and Thomas Hogan added 12 points.
Lewis County would be back on the road again on Thursday, January 26 when they traveled to Fairmont for a Big Ten Conference game with the East Fairmont Bees.
After one quarter of play it was all Bees as they held a 28-8 lead over the Minutemen. The Minutemen would outscore the Bees 23-13 in the second quarter to cut the lead at halftime to 41-31.
Lewis County would cut into the East Fairmont lead again in the third quarter as they once again outscored the Bees 15-11 to make the lead after three quarters of play 52-46 in favor of East Fairmont.
East Fairmont would pull away in the final quarter of play as they outscored the Minutemen 28-18 and take a 80-64 win. Ian Young would lead the Minutemen in scoring with 20 points followed by Kaleb Gannon with 14 points and Thomas Hogan with 12 points.
The Minutemen would be at home on Saturday, January 28 when they hosted the Clay County Panthers in a non conference tilt.
The Panthers would have the lead after one quarter of play 8-7. Lewis County would hold a 20-15 scoring edge in the second quarter to take a 27-23 lead at halftime.
The Minutemen would blow the game open in the third quarter as they outscored the Panthers 20-3 in the period and go on to claim a 54-39 win to move their record on the season to 7-8.
Nate Frazier 14 points and Thomas Hogan pace Lewis County in scoring. Lewis County will have two games this week the first at Buckhannon Upshur on February 2 and at Nicholas County on February 4.
