Mary Josephine Woofter Holy

Mary Josephine Woofter Holy, of 67 Second St., Straley Addition, Jane Lew, West Virginia, passed away at 4:30 a.m. on Friday, October 13, 2017 in Crestview Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation in Jane Lew.
She was born in Weston on March 19, 1920, the only child of the late Milton A. and Mabel Goodwin Woofter. She was a lifelong resident of Lewis County.
On November 24, 1957, she married John S. Holy who later became Weston’s City Attorney, Chairman of the West Virginia Board of Probation and Parole during Governor Cecil Underwood’s first administration, and served as Lewis County’s Prosecuting Attorney. They celebrated 43 years of marriage before he departed this life on December 23, 2000.
Her intellect, style and class will be remembered by her first cousins: Jack Goodwin of Clarksburg, Betty Woofter of Richmond, Virginia, and Rosalie Kayser Humpreys of Chesapeake, Virginia; several second cousins; and her close friends and associates, Robert and Joyce Morris of Fairmont.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her first cousin, Frederick Goodwin.
Mrs. Holy was a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College, Class of 1942. She retired from Consolidated Gas Supply Corporation (CGS) in 1981, where she had worked for over 38 years in the Clarksburg office. She was a 91-year member of the First United Methodist Church of Jane Lew, a 50-year member of the Good Hope Chapter 109 Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary No. 166, a member of the Emeritus Club of West Virginia Wesleyan College, and an active member of the Republican Party.
Family and friends gathered at the Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service at 144 Hackers Creek Rd., in Jane Lew, from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, October 16, 2017. Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, at the Pat Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Ronald C. Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Machpelah Cemetery in Weston.
