The Lewis County Maids soccer team, won a contest against Bridgeport, with a score of 1-0, last Thursday, at the Lewis County High School Athletic Complex.
The game was a back and forth affair between the teams, throughout the game, with Lewis County failing to capitalize on some early scoring opportunities.
Bridgeport did pose a threat during the first half of play, however the defensive line of the Minute Maids and goal keeper Paije Bragg, kept the Indians from sending a ball into the net.
The first and only goal of the game was scored midway through the first half of play with a sequence that began at the midfield line between Sarah Flesher and Sarah Post, which enabled the pair to advance the ball up the field.
Flesher did manage to send the ball to the middle with a cross, which enabled Meg Walker to sink the ball into the back of the net, with a leaping header.
The Indians did attempt to score multiple times during the second half of play, but once again were stopped by the Maid’s defense and keeper Bragg.
The Maids were not so lucky two days prior to their Bridgeport game, when they were beat by the Grafton Bearcats, 0-3.
Although the Maids played an aggressive game against the Bearcats, they were unable to land a ball into the net.
Grafton sailed one goal into the net 12 minutes into the first half of play, then in the second half of the game planted two more goals into the net.
