Maids go 3-2 during five game stretch


The Lewis County Maids just completed five games in ten days and went 3-2 to move their record to 13-6 on the season. The first of the five games was at East Fairmont.
The Maids outscored the Bees 17-14 in the first quarter to take the early lead. A 15-9 scoring edge in the second canto pushed the Maids halftime lead to 32-23. The Maids continued to pad their lead with a 19-12 scoring edge in the third quarter to take a 51-35 lead into the final quarter of play. Lewis County held on the get a 59-47 win over East Fairmont. Bella Posey and Anna Tucker had 16 points each in the win, while Sarah Post added 14 points.
 Lewis County was on the road again when they traveled to Elkins to take on the Lady Tigers. The Maids found themselves down 13-10 after one quarter of play. Lewis County had a strong second quarter outscoring the Lady Tigers 22-6 to take a 32-19 halftime lead.
A 12-10 edge in scoring in the third quarter pushed the Maids lead to 44-29 with just a final quarter to play. The Maids held on and claimed a 61-50 victory. Bella Posey 28 points led Lewis County, while Sarah Post contributed 15 points.
A tough test was in store for Lewis County on Jan. 30, as they traveled to take on the North Marion Lady Huskies the Class AA Number One team in the state. The Maids ran into a buzz saw in this one, as they were never able to rebound from a 13 point first quarter deficit and fall to North Marion 87-65. Post’s 18 points, Posey’s 14 points and Tucker’s 11 points led the Maids scoring attack.
Feb. 1 presented Lewis County with a big challenge as they faced the 17-1 Class AAA Number One ranked Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Bucs.
The Lady Bucs came to South Weston and took care of business as they raced out to 23-3 first quarter lead and never look back as they handed the Maids a 75-47 loss. Post’s 12 points and Deserea Ferguson nine points paced the Maids in scoring.
Lewis County closed out the stretch with a home tilt against the Roane County Lady Raiders on Feb. 3.
The Maids put and end to their two game losing streak as they outscored Roane County in each of the four quarters of play as they handed the Lady Raiders a 65-55 loss to move their record on the season to 13-6.
Post’s 21 points, Bella Posey’s 13 points, and Ferguson’s 11 points paced Lewis County in the win.
Paije Bragg provided a fourth quarter spark for the Maids as she tallied nine points in the final frame. Lewis County was on the road on Feb. 6, as they traveled to Philip Barbour and will return home for the final two games of the regular season on Feb. 10 versus Bridgeport and Feb. 12 versus Grafton.
