The Lewis County Maids varsity basketball team had a pair of games this past week after earning a victory in their season opener. The Maids hosted the Clay County Panthers on Dec. 5, in a rematch of last season sectional championship game from last season.
The Maids got out to early lead as they outscored the Panthers 16-6 in the first quarter and 16-15 in the second quarter to take a 32-21 halftime lead. Clay County made an attempt at a comeback in the second half but came up short as the Maids held on and earn a 57-53 win to improve to 2-0 on the season Bella Posey scored a game high 23 points to pace the Maids scoring attack while Sarah Post added 15 points in the win for the Maids.
Another rematch was in store for Lewis County on Dec. 7, as they traveled to Bridgeport for a rematch of last season’s regional final against the Lady Indians.
Lewis County looking to avenge that loss played the Lady Indians close in the first half as they went into the halftime break down 21-17.
The second it looked as it would be close the rest of the way out but the Lady Indians had a huge third quarter scoring 30 points while holding the Maids to 14 points and went on to take a 68-38 victory over the Maids, who fell to 2-1 with the loss.
Sarah Post was the leading scorer for Lewis County with 13 points followed by Bella Posey and Emma Cayton with eight points each.
The Maids will have upcoming games on Dec. 12, at Liberty, December 14, at Fairmont Senior and on Dec. 19, at home versus Preston.
