Lisa Michelle (Shelly) Hardman Kraus, a strong Christian mother, daughter, teacher, and worship leader went to be with God in Heaven on Friday, December 15, 2017. She and her husband, Lee, have two children: Alex, a sophomore at West Virginia University and Emily, a junior at Lewis County High School.
She was born on April 23, 1972, in Buckhannon, WV, a daughter of John Terry Hardman and Helen Lucille Lough Hardman, who reside in Horner, WV. They raised her to be a God-fearing, people loving, compassionate person.These attributes contributed to the way she lived her life.
In addition to her husband and children her memories will be cherished by her sister, Sherri Denise Jackson and husband, Darren, of Horner;seven nieces and nephews: Ryan, Morgan, and Aaron Jackson, Trey and David Haley, and Camdyn and Weston Kraus; and the countless family, friends, and students, who have been impacted by her care, faith, and strength.
She will be reunited with Frank Lough, Maxine Frazier Lough and Ozzel Hardman and Dollie Frymyer Hardman.
As a 1991 Glenville State College graduate in Elementary Education and a 1993 West Virginia University graduate with a Masters in Special Education, she celebrated 16 years in the classroom. She began her career teaching students with severe and profound disabilities and for the past ten years taught third grade at St. Patrick Elementary School in Weston, WV, where she also served as the accompanist for the school choir and the annual Christmas program.
Shelly was a recognized leader in the community, at school, and at church throughout her life.
She was recently acknowledged by the Diocese of Wheeling and Charleston with the Golden Apple award for exceptional teaching in elementary education.
Shelly, who attended Horizon’s Church in Lost Creek, WV, has also played keyboard and sang while serving as a member of the church worship team. She expressed that one of her most moving moments was playing and singing harmony on the worship team with her daughter, Emily, who also sings and plays guitar and keyboard.
Shelly battled advanced Stage IV colon cancer and recently celebrated her 24th wedding anniversary with her husband.
She adopted the following scripture early in her journey with cancer and continued to be a strong Christian example for everyone in her life; living her life as faith in action.

Friends and family gathered at the Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service at 144 Hackers Creek Rd., in Jane Lew, from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, December 18, 2017, and from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., on Tuesday. A Celebration of Life Service followed at 1 p.m., at the Pat Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Quint Pitts officiating. Interment followed in the Weston Masonic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Horizon’s Church Orphanage Mission in honor of Shelly’s passion for helping children in need. Horizons Church 8302 Mount Clare Rd.
