The Lewis County Pee Wee Football team was at home on Saturday, Oct, 6, and hosted the South Harrison Hawks in a Mountaineer Youth Football game at the Robert L. Bland Middle School Athletic Field.
The Minutemen were looking to get back in the win column after suffering their first loss of the season last week to Bridgeport. The Hawks and Minutemen played a scoreless first quarter but the Hawks got the first score of the game to take a 6-0 lead with just 2:52 left to play in the opening half. Lewis County answered quickly as they scored just 16 seconds later on a 48 yard touchdown pass from Logan Boyce to Quinten Hilliard and Garrett Moats ran in for the conversion the Minutemen had a 7-6 lead that they would take into the halftime break.
South Harrison once again took the lead with a third quarter touchdown and conversion for a 13-7 lead. Again, Lewis County answered, this time when Hilliard scored on a 45 yard run and also ran in for the conversion to give the Minutemen a 14-13 lead that they took into the final quarter of play.
The fourth quarter would be all defense as neither team would put points on the board and Lewis County would move to 6-1 on the season with the win.
Lewis County tallied 160 yards in total offense with 112 yards rushing and 48 yards passing. Quinten Hilliard lead the way with 73 yards and a touchdown while Garrett Moats picked up 17 yards. Logan Boyce had 1 pass completion to Hilliard for 48 yards and a touchdown. Boyce and Jesse Kemper led Lewis County with 6 tackles each. The Minutemen will travel to Tygarts Valley High School on Sunday, October 14 for a game against Tygarts Valley at 3:00 pm.
