Lewis County Midget Team Gets Back On Track With 41-20 win Over South Harrison




The Lewis County Midget football team was at home on Saturday, October 6 to face the South Harrison Hawks in a Mountaineer Youth Football game at the Robert L. Bland Middle School Athletic Field.
The Midget team was looking to get rolling again after losing for the first time in last week’s contest against Bridgeport Red. The Minutemen got  on the board first in the opening quarter of play when Drew Cayton scored his first of five touchdowns on the night on a 30 yard run, and Caden Kelley ran in for the PAT for a 7-0 Lewis County lead after one quarter of play.
Cayton started the second quarter scoring on a 89 yard, and when Kelley ran for second conversion of the night  to give Lewis County had a 14-0 lead. The Hawks would strike next and cut the lead to 14-7. Cayton ended the first half scoring with a 35 yard touchdown scamper. Cayton also ran in for the conversion to give Lewis County a 21-7 halftime lead.   
The second half would be just like the first as Cayton continued to run wild  with scoring runs of 50 yards with a failed conversion and 17 yards with Ryder Aman running in for the PAT that would give Lewis County a 34-7 lead that they would carry into the final quarter of play.
South Harrison scored a fourth quarter touchdown and a conversion that cut the Minutemen lead to 34-14 but that score would be answered back by Lewis County when Caden Kelley ran 48 yards for the score and David Hairfield added the PAT Lewis County had a 41-14 lead. South Harrison would tally the final score of the night but would fall short in a 41-20 loss to the Minutemen who improve their season mark to 5-1 with the win. Lewis County picked up 406 yards in total offense on the night with 378 yards rushing and 28 yards passing. Drew Cayton enjoyed a big night on the ground picking up 279 yards rushing on 11 carries and five touchdowns. Caden Kelley added 63 yards on 5 carries and a touchdown. Bryant Zielinski had 1 completion for 28 yards to Manny Robinson. Bryant Zielinski 8 tackles, Jacob Padgett 7 tackles and Alex Goodwin 6 tackles led the Lewis County defense.
Lewis County will travel to Robert C, Byrd High School on Sunday, October 14 when they will face the Little Eagles at 1:00 pm.
