Lewis County Lady Dawgs Softball Season Opens

Lewis County’s Lady Dawgs start 4-1.  The team opened the season at home against Clarksburg and got a win behind the pitching of Ashley Crook, who struck out 12 batters for the win.  The Lady Dawgs had eight hits in the game, including a home run by catcher, Haley Smith.
The second game evened their record to 1 -1 as Lewis County’s Alley Cats pulled out the win, despite Crook’s ten strike outs.  The Lady Dawgs only mustered three base runners in the game as the hitters could not get their bats warmed up.
The Lady Dawgs faced the Gilmer “Her-icanes” on the road at the Sue Morris Athletic Complex on April 20.  Again Crook pitched, and combined with Channing Carson to strike out 3 batters in the win.  The Lady Dawgs scored 19 runs, with Ella Pinkney and Kaidyn Holcomb each scoring 3 times and five other players scoring two times each.  Crook hit her first home run of the season in the 2nd inning with runners on base.
The 2-1 Lady Dawgs then returned home to face another tough LC team, the Shockers.  Both teams battled but the 4th inning proved to be the difference.  The Lady Dawgs pulled ahead 5-2 in the bottom of the 4th and held off the Shockers in the 5th, in part due to Crook registering 3 of her 10 strikeouts in the 5th inning.  With a final score of 5-3, the Lady Dawgs notched another win behind the arm of their right handed workhorse, Crook.
The team consists of players Rae-Leigh Bonnett, Channing Carson, Reghan Carson, Ashley Crook, Mauren Fisher, Kaidyn Holcomb, Hailey Marple, Ella Pinkney, Haley Smith, and Julia Watson; and coaches Rebecah Carson, Audra Hall-Hallman, and Pam Minigh.  The Lady Dawgs return to action with a double header on April 29th in Bridgeport.
