The Robert L. Bland (RLBMS) Lady Patriots moved their record to 1-1 on the young season with a hard fought victory over South Harrison Middle School Thursday, Sept. 6, at the Robert L. Bland Athletic Field.
It didn’t take long for the Lady Patriots to find the back of the net, with Ambie Herrod scoring the opening goal for both the match and the season less than one minute into the first half. South Harrison nearly made it 1-1 a few minutes later but the shot bounced off the crossbar and out of play.
RLBMS extended their lead with 27 minutes left to go in the first half when Zoie Parmer corner took a deflection into the net. Parmer had a strong game for the Lady Patriots using her defensive and free kick skills to anchor the defense. South Harrison got on the board just before the end of the first half, and the game went to the break with the Lady Pats leading 2-1.
In the second half the Lady Patriots added another goal, which was matched quickly by the Lady Hawks. RLBMS then weathered a late surge with the help of strong defensive play by Parmer and Nevaiah Simmons to close out their first victory of the season.
Earlier in the week the Lady Patriots fell to a much more experienced Buckhannon-Upshur squad by a score of 8-0 in the season opener.
