The Lady Patriots Softball team finally saw the diamond after 12 days off as they traveled to Elkins on May 3.
The Lady Patriots shook off the rust and rode the one hit pitching of Abby Hartley to a 17-0 win.
“We were rusty in the first at bat but the bats woke up in the second and third innings,” stated Coach Pratt.
Ella McDougal had four hits and scored four runs followed by Morgan Riffle with two doubles and a single. Abby Hartley, Tatum Conner, Adison Heath, Hannah Brown, Abby Spray, Brooke Butcher, Lillie Cayton and Kylee Good all added a hit in the win.
“It was a good win as everyone got to play and bat,” stated Coach Pratt.
The stage was set for the rematch as the Lady Patriots traveled to Tucker Valley on Thursday to take on a very strong Tucker Valley squad.
“Things looked bleak early for the Lady Patriots to take their first loss of the season as Tucker Valley took a 3-1 lead into the fifth inning,” Pratt said. “We could not score and Tucker Valley was playing outstanding defense.”
The tide would turn in the fifth inning as the Lady Patriots bats would explode with seven hits in the inning and plate six runs to take a 7-3 lead and never look back and Abby Hartley shut the door on Tucker Valley’s offense as the Lady Patriots rolled to a 10-3 victory.
Emma Cayton led the barrage with three hits followed by Olivia Krinov, Ella McDougal, Morgan Riffle and Abby Hartley with two hits each. Hannah Brown, Brooke Butcher and Katelyn Neal added a hit in the hard fought victory.
“Once we starting hitting it became contagious, “ stated Pratt. “We have a team that knows how to finish a game and a will to win. They truly are a special group of young ladies that Coach Hartley and I are so proud of. The Lady Patriots are 12-0 heading into their final game next Wednesday at Buckhannon.”
