Lady Patriots Improve to 7-0 on Season

The Lady Patriots softball team was at home on Monday, April 10, as they took on Tucker Valley.
The Lady Patriots jumped out to a 4-0 lead appeared ready to roll to an easy win, but Tucker Valley took advantage of five Lady Patriots’ errors, and took a 5-4 lead heading into the bottom of the 4th inning.
“We had a little meeting before we batted in the bottom of the 4th,” stated Coach Pratt. “We had lost our focus and got sloppy after getting the lead.”
Morgan Riffle, player 18, doubled in Abby Spray and then stole third and scored on Abby Hartley’s ground ball.
The Lady Patriots took a 6-5 lead into the 5th, and Abby Hartley allowed only one base runner after that. The Lady Patriots rolled to a 13-5 victory in six innings.
“Our bats came alive as we exploded for 8 hits and 7 runs in the last 2 innings to roll to the win,” Pratt said.
Morgan Riffle led the charge with two doubles and a triple and scored three, with four RBIS.
Ella McDougal, Abby Hartley and Brooke Butcher added two hits each and Abby Spray, Emma Cayton, Olivia Krinov and Katelyn Neal chipped in one hit each.
“It shows a lot of character when a team loses its focus, but keeps their composure to gain  the win,” Pratt said. “ I am very proud of how we regained our form and played Lady Patriots softball.”
The Lady Patriots took to the road on Wednesday, April 12, as they traveled to Grafton to take on Taylor County in a doubleheader.
Pitcher Abby Hartley would be in the zone, in game one, as she pitched a one-hitter. The Lady Patriots’ bats were on fire as they rolled to a 10-0 three-inning win.
Olivia Krinov had three, hits and Emma Cayton added two hits. Ella McDougal, Morgan Riffle, Abby Hartley, Tatum Conner, Lillie Cayton, Brooke Butcher and Katelyn Neal all added a hit in the win.
The Lady Patriots would continue their torrid hitting, scoring four runs in the first inning and rolling to a 11-3 five-inning win.
Abby Hartley struck out 10 batters to get the win, but also had a double, triple and an inside-the-park home run to aid her pitching.
Olivia Krinov added 3 hits and Ella McDougal and Brooke Butcher had 2 hits each. Morgan Riffle, Tatum Conner, Adison Heath, Emma Cayton, Alisa Linger and Katelyn Neal added a hit in the win.
“Everyone got a lot of playing time, and at different positions,” stated Pratt. “We hit the ball extremely well and played good defense against Taylor County. It was an awesome week of Lady Patriots softball, as the Lady
Patriots are now 7-0 on the season.”
