The Lady Patriots 6th-7th grade basketball team was at home on Tuesday, January 24 taking on the talented Mountaineer Middle School of Morgantown.
The Lady Patriots 9 game winning streak would come to and end but not without a fight.
“Mountaineer Middle overwhelmed us with their press in Morgantown, as they beat us pretty easy,” stated Coach Pratt The Lady Patriots would be ready this time and would shred the press with ease. Unfortunately the Lady Patriots could not throw the ball in the ocean and would be down 6-5 at halftime.
“That’s not a misprint,” said Pratt “We missed 27 shots in the first half but our defense would not allow Mountaineer Middle’s prolific offense any easy scores.”
The Lady Patriots would actually take a 9-8 lead early in the third quarter but Mountaineer Middle would hit free throws late in the game and the Lady Patriots would miss 5 free throws in the 4th quarter.
“We missed 45 shots on the night but still had a chance to win,” said Pratt. “I have never been more proud of a team that I have coached, we out-rebounded Mountaineer Middle 37-16, but could not take advantage of the extra shots.”
Elleonna Stump had 7 points and 7 rebounds in the 20-15 loss. Abby Hartley and Brooke Butcher had 2 points each while Emma Post had 3 points and 6 rebounds. Jaelyn Romans added a free throw for 1 point.
The Lady Patriots would have little time to shake off their loss as Fairmont West would invade the RLBMS Gym on Thursday, January 26.
The Lady Patriots would take a 7-3 first quarter lead and roll to a 22-16 win.
Emma Post scored 8 points including 2 three pointers. Elleonna Stump added 6 points to go along with 9 rebounds. Abby Hartley chipped in 4 points and 7 rebounds. Brooke Butcher and Jaelyn Romans added 2 points each in the win.
“It was a great bounce back win against a real good basketball team, that is why I love coaching this team,” said Pratt. “They never quit or give up. I am very proud and blessed.”
