Joseph “Joe” Edward Smith, 60, of W 2nd St., Weston, passed away at 2:05 a.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, in the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston following a bold, fearless battle with lung cancer.
He was born in Lewis County on August 20, 1956, a son of the late James Elliott Smith and Betty Ann Workman Smith.
On January 18, 1974, he married Delores Goldsmith, who was his heart and soul for 43 years. She will miss sitting with him on their front porch, his favorite place to rest, relax, and spend time together.
His loving, hard working nature will be carried on by his three children: Bessie Ann McCall and husband, Chris, of Weston, Scott Goldsmith of Weston, and Joseph E. Smith Jr., of Weston; six grandchildren who will dearly miss their Papaw: Gracie Smith, Dalton Smith, Joseph Smith, Kayla Smith, Scott Goldsmith, and Emilea Posey; one great grandchild to carry on Pap Joe’s legacy, Payton Smith; six siblings who will always remember Joe being there to help them: Ricki Smith of Weston, Roger Smith and wife, Lisa, of Pricetown, Brenda Goldsmith and husband, Bill, of Weston, Robin Ruble of Weston, Vicki McLaughlin and husband, Mike, of Freeman’s Creek, and Sandra Bush and husband, Randy, of Weston; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings: James Smith Jr., and Joyce Heater.
Joe was employed as a glass worker for Louie Glass and WV Glass, and worked as a small engine repair mechanic for many years. He was a traditional, old school, cowboy at heart who enjoyed hunting, woodworking, watching John Wayne westerns, and listening to old country music, with a special place in his heart for the sweet, soothing voice of Patsy Cline.
