John Wesley Horner, 74, of Roanoke, passed away on Thursday July 5, 2018. He was born in Lewis County on September 9, 1943 to the late Friel and Helen (Hawkins) Horner.
On July 21, 1965 he married Norma “Joan” Stallings Horner who will miss him dearly after 53 years of marriage.
John was survived by two sons: John (Dreama) of Goodhope and Wesley (Kelly) of Roanoke. Seven grandchildren Justin (Kerrie) Murray of Goodhope, Camilleia (Shawn) Horner of Jane Lew, Chloe (Zack) Horner of Jane Lew, Joshua, Lanie, Kelsey, and Jayden Horner of Roanoke. Three great grandchildren Aurora, Judah, and Ava. Sisters Myra (Cecil) Younker of Dayton, OH and Schadonia (Larry) Rexroad of Jane Lew. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents he was proceeded in death by his sister Marie Bailey and nephew Joshua Bee.
John was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He retired from the carpenters union. He loved to hunt, fish, and work along side his two youngest grandsons and many beloved friends.
Per John’s request, many friends and family gathered in his home. He was buried in his family cemetery Friday, July 6, 2018. Ray Eckes, Phillip Higham, and Gary Chenoweth dug the grave. Rusty Bragg worked on the road to the cemetery. Cousin Ray (Trish) Eckes and nephew Tate(Angie) Bailey provided canopies. Paul bearers were Sons John and Wes Horner, Grandsons Josh and Jayden Horner, Nephews Sy Bee and Zack Hicks, Cousin Phillip Higham, Neighbor Devin Bohan, and Friend David Towensend. A special thank you for anyone who provided food, drinks, and gifts.
