For the second consecutive season, their is an American Legion Baseball team, as a result of the support of Jane Lew Post 166.
The legion season went underway on Friday, June 2, at the Lewis County High School Baseball Field as Jane Lew Post 166 played host to Grafton Post 12.
During pre-game ceremonies members of Jane Lew Post 166 who were in attendance were introduced to the crowd then, Post 166 member Charlie Straley threw the first pitch.
After holding Grafton scoreless in the top of the first Jane Lew would strike with four first inning runs and take a 4-0 lead after one inning of play.
The second inning was the same as Grafton was held scoreless again and Jane Lew would push another run across to take a 5-0 lead after two innings of play.
Grafton got one the board in the top of the third inning when they scored one run and after they held Jane Lew scoreless in the bottom half of the inning it was now 5-1.
In the fourth inning Post 166 extended their lead after once again holding Post 12 scoreless while they would plate three more runs to make the score 8-1, after four complete innings of play.
After a scoreless fifth inning from both teams Grafton would put up a five spot in the top of the sixth inning to cut the Jane Lew lead to 8-6 after five and half innings of play.
Jane Lew, however, would respond in the home half of the sixth inning of play by erupting for nine runs and ending the game due the ten run rule and win their season opener by a score of 17-6.
Jacob Moneypenny picked up the mound win as he pitched the first three innings with relief help from Luke White with two innings pitched and Drew Rogers who hurled one inning of relief.
Jared Skinner led Post 166 thirteen hit attack with four hits including a double and an RBI, while Leo White had two hits and two RBIS and Cole Barker who had two hits also including a double and three RBIS.
Jane Lew Post 166 will be in action three times this week with three road contests. The first game was played on Monday, June 5, when they traveled to Shinnston at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 7, they will travel to Preston County for a 6 p.m. tilt and close the week on Saturday, June 10, at Elkins in a 3 p.m. contest.
Players for the 2017 Jane Lew Post 166 baseball team include Leo White, Jared Skinner, Jacob Moneypenny, Dylan Gump, Cole Barker, Nick Gould, Cody Seelback, Levi Fox, Jacob White, Luke White, Robert Triplett, Drew Kuhn and Drew Rogers. Jesse Skiles in the Manager for Post 166, Logan Moneypenny is the Head Coach, while Levi Bender, Seth Corwin and Tyler Wood are the Assistant Coaches for this years squad.
