After a week lay-off, the Jane Lew Post 166 American Legion baseball team hit the diamond again on Monday, June 19, when they hosted Summersville Post 131.
Jane Lew opened the scoring in the first inning by scoring a run without the benefit of a base hit.
Jared Skinner reached first base on an error and promptly stole second and third base and when the catcher’s throw sailed into left field. He came home to score the game’s first run. Post 166 would add two more in the second inning to make the score 3-0 after Cole Barker led off with a single, stole second base and went to third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Cody Seelback.
Luke White then singled and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Levi Fox. An attempted pick off play at second by the Summersville pitcher allowed White to score when the pitcher’s throw to second went into
centerfield.
Summersville would push across a run in the fourth inning to cut the Jane Lew lead to 3-1 after three and one half innings of play. Jane Lew would tally two more runs in the home half of the fourth inning.
Luke White drew one out walk stole second  and came home to score on an RBI double by Levi Fox. Jacob White then singled and move to second on the throw from the outfield and Post 166 had runners on second and third and one out.
Fox tried to score on a passed ball, but was tagged out at the plate and J. White moved to third. A wild throw to third to pickoff White allowed him to score and make the score 5-1, after four innings of play. Jane Lew added three more runs in the fifth inning when Jacob Moneypenny led off the inning with a walk, stole second and went to third on a wild pitch.
Dylan Gump then walked and stole second, and Barker would drive in Moneypenny and Gump with a run scoring single. Barker would score the final run of the frame when he scored on and RBI single from Jacob White. In the sixth inning Post 166 would score three more runs to end the game by the ten rule.
Jared Skinner, Leo White and Jacob Moneypenny all drew walks to load the bases for cleanup hitter Dylan Gump. Gump would hit an infield fly and would be out but Skinner came home to score when the first baseman mishandled the fly ball.
A walk to Barker loaded the bases again and Robert Triplett then laced a single to score Leo White and on the throw to the plate, Summersville had Moneypenny trapped between third and home.
On the ensuing rundown the catcher threw the ball away and allowed Moneypenny to come with the final run of the night to give Post 166 an 11-1 win to improve their record to 3-2 on the season.
Luke White worked the first four innings to gain the mound win while Jacob Moneypenny tossed the final two frames to earn a hold.
Cole Barker had two hits and 2 RBIS to pace the Jane Lew hitting attack while Jacob White added two hits and an RBI in the win for Jane Lew.
