Gwendolyn Lee “Tootie” Rexroad went to be with the Lord at 7:50 a.m., Saturday, May 13, 2017, at her residence unexpectedly.
Born July 1, 1941, in Duffy, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Alice Cidney Gibson McCartney.
She was preceded in death by her husband Earl Lawson “Brownie” Rexroad on February 6, 2011.
She was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Rochelle McCartney; sister, Charlotte Haultman; brother, Delmer McCartney. Tootie was the owner/operator of McCartney’s Grocery, a member of the Elijah Chapel United Methodist Church, Queen of the Red Hats “The Klassy Ladies”, caretaker of the Kincaid cemetery, loved Square dancing and former member of the Braxton County cloggers.
Survivors include her two sisters, Shannon Bailey of Glenville, WV, Karen Bleigh of Walkersville, WV; two brothers, Gary McCartney of Greensburg, IN, and Freeman McCartney and wife Kathy of Lorain, OH; several nieces and nephews; Eric Clark of Ireland, WV, whom Tootie considered like her son.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, May 18, 2017, in the Alkire Funeral Chapel, 190 Wildcat Road, Ireland, WV 26376. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, from 4-8 p.m. Interment will follow in the Kincaid Cemetery on the Buttermilk Road with Pastor Dwayne Brown officiating.
