Gertrude “Darlene” Cooper, 87, of Jane Lew, passed away on Thursday May 10, 2018, in the comfort of her daughter’s home in Weston, following a brief illness.
She was born on April 28, 1931, in Columbia City, Indiana, the daughter of the late Loren Korea Mosher and Fawn Loree Grable Mosher.
On March 20, 1954, she married Allan Douglas “Doug” Cooper, and they celebrated 58 years of marriage before his passing on April 19, 2013.
Her strong, supportive nature will be carried on by her two daughters: Kimala J. Rayworth and husband, Fred, of Las Vegas, NV, and Falina A. Henline and husband, Willard, of Weston; four grandchildren: Rhonda Rayworth Raulston, Brook Rayworth, Jared Henline and Kenneth Henline; and seven great grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Carolyn Shiver, of New River, Arizona and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Beverly Chase; and one brother, Marshall Mosher.
Darlene was a graduate of Churubusco High School in Indiana. She retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs as a secretary to the Inspector General, and she was a proud Air Force wife for 23 years. She enjoyed listening to music, traveling around the world, playing Bingo with her friends, and sharing stories about her grandkids. As an avid golfer, she was also a past member of the Board of Directors at Deerfield Country Club. She was a Methodist by faith.
Darlene’s request for cremation has been honored. Family and friends will gather for a Graveside Service at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at the Mitchell Cemetery in Roanoke. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Jackson Memorial Community Center P.O. Box 770, Jane Lew, WV 26378.
