Early voting/absentee numbers top 1,600 for Lewis

Lewis County Clerk Cynthia Rowan reported at the Lewis County Commission meeting on Monday that early voter/absentee ballots totaled 1,682. Early voting ended Nov. 3.
Absentee ballots totaled 94, and early voters totaled 1,588.
Registered Democrats totaled 571 in early voting, Republicans totaled 725, Mountain Party totaled two, Libertarian totaled one.
No Party Affiliation totals for early voting were 276, and other totaled 13.
Absentee Democrat votes totaled 43, Republican totaled 41, Mountain Party totaled one, Libertarian totaled eight, and no party affiliation totaled one.
These numbers are unofficial until canvassed.
Canvassing begins Nov. 13.
Rowan said the county is at 17.06 percent for registered voters in early voting and absentee. The total percentage of voters in the May 2018 Primary was 35.81 percent.
For an off year election, Rowan said this is the highest total they’ve seen.  For 2010, totals for early voting were 1,030, and absentee ballots were 78. In 2014, early voting totals were 1,014, and absentee totals were 87.
