College tuition reduction for GSC

Editor:

As we approach the holiday season, we are reminded about what matters most: family, faith, and the hope for a better tomorrow. I want to be sure that all families were aware of Glenville State College’s renewed commitment and resolution to reducing the total cost of college attendance. In the holiday spirit, Glenville State College has again committed to lowering its tuition this coming summer and fall semesters.
Specifically, Glenville State will be lowering its tuition for summer, 2018 an unprecedented 25 percent. In addition, Glenville State is committed to lowering its tuition for the 2018-2019 academic year by 2 percent with the condition that our state appropriation does not decrease.
Glenville State is able to make these bold steps for three reasons:  1) we have tightened our belts and are becoming more efficient in all facets of our operations (from better course scheduling, to better energy consumption, and less reliance on institutional scholarships to more privately funded scholarships), 2) we are anticipating more students taking classes and living on campus, and 3) we believe we can work with legislators on both sides of the aisle to make college affordable again.
Glenville State College is dedicated to decreasing tuition further with our state legislator’s help. Your assistance in contacting our state legislators and encouraging them to increase current higher education funding levels will assure that West Virginia families and students achieve a more prosperous 2018.  Glenville State College looks forward to working to continue to make college more affordable, accessible, and successful for all students and families in West Virginia.

Sincerely,
Tracy L. Pellett, Ed.D.
President, Glenville State College
