Clarence Hugh “Hughie” Taylor, 76, of Shinnston, formerly of Weston, passed away at his home, on Saturday, September 16, 2017, after a long and courageous battle with COPD. He had family and friends by his side, as well as the nurses from Amedisys Hospice, who provided loving, compassionate care for the past four months.
He was born in Lewis County on March 18, 1941, a son of the late Clarence Edward Taylor and Goldie May Butcher Taylor.
On July 24, 2003, he married Vicky D. Wright who will miss him dearly after 14 years of marriage.
His strong, caring nature will be carried on by his four sons: Clarence “Buthie” Taylor and wife, Monika, of Germany, Marvin Taylor and wife, Mary Beth, of Charleston, David “Dave” Taylor and wife, Mary, of Columbia, SC, and Arthur “Boo” Taylor and wife, Cheryl, of Mt. Clare; three brothers: Edwin L. Taylor of Weston, Brenard “Brennie” Taylor of Jessup, MD, G.W. “Bill” Johns of Lake City, SC; several grandchildren, great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; his best friend, loyal companion, and beloved Chihuahua, Little Bit; and everyone else who had a special impact on his life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Brenda Joyce Taylor, and Edna Mae Taylor Smith.
Clarence worked as a butcher at various stores and retired with 50 years of service. He was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and reloading ammunition. He read the newspaper and his bible everyday, and he loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Shinnston Lodge #24 A.F. and A.M, and St. John’s Commandery #8.
Friends and family gathered at the Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service at 144 Hackers Creek Rd. in Jane Lew from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2017. Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, at the Pat Boyle Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Jerry Bean officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Jane Lew. Full military honors will be accorded by the Lewis County Honor Guard and the United States Army. Weston Lodge #10 A.F and A.M will hold Masonic Graveside Rites.
