Lewis County Commission

Commissioner Pat Boyle
Commissioner Rod Wyman
County Administrator Cindy Whetsell

This letter is in reference to the recent City of Weston application for annexation submitted to the Lewis County Commission, which is scheduled on the agenda for Monday, September 10, 2018.
The Lewis County Chamber of Commerce is a nonprofit organization which relies on memberships and fund raisers for funding.  The Chamber represents the business community of Lewis County.  Many of our members are in the Weston City limits and many are located in the area of proposed annexation, therefore we feel the need for clarification for our membership.
The references made in regard to the Weston Chamber of Commerce on page 5 states the City of Weston has had open discussions with the City of Weston Chamber of Commerce and page 7 states “the City has attempted to reach out to the Weston Chamber of Commerce”   As we are not aware of an organization called City of Weston Chamber of Commerce we can only assume the references were pertaining to the Lewis County Chamber of Commerce.
The City of Weston Finance Manager, Dodie Arbogast attended the April 17th meeting of the Chamber Board of Directors.  The forum of this meeting was to provide a round table discussion of the projected annexation project.  Several members of the Board expressed their concerns in regard to the lack of additional benefits to businesses being annexed.  The Board also expressed many concerns about the projected expenditures of the proceeds of the additional taxation.  The specific discussion concerned the duplication of services by creating a marketing organization of the City when the Lewis County Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Lewis County Chamber of Commerce collaborate and work efficiently together to promote the area. Many of the members of the Board expressed a need for upgrades to infrastructure rather than a duplication of marketing efforts.
In closing since the Chamber is referenced in the application, clarification is in order.  Please note this letter and we respectfully request the inclusion of this document on the agenda.

Sherry Rogers
Executive Director
Lewis County Chamber of Commerce
