Catherine Jane White Snuffer, 53, of Rush Run Road, Weston, passed away Wednesday, February 21, at her home with her family and friends praying at her side.
Cathy was born in Weston March 11, 1964, the loving daughter of James “Luke” White and Carolyn “Jane” Spray White also of Weston who survive.
She is also survived by her husband, Dr. Robert Snuffer whom she married in 1997, and three sons John Paul, Patrick Frederick, and Vincent Thaddeus, all at home. She adored her family and was especially proud of the faith of her three sons.
Also surviving is her older sister Elizabeth Nichols, and her husband, Wayne, and her younger brother John and his wife, Lesley, White all of Weston. She was preceded in death by her oldest brother Robert Joseph White in 1983.
Also surviving are her niece Cate Nichols and nephew Joe Nichols of Weston, nephews Leo White and Luke White of Weston, niece Elyse Northern of Flower Mound, Texas and many step-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her uncle William Newbrough and her aunts Becky Spray and Clara Mae Spray and several cousins. Also surviving are countless close friends who will miss many fun adventures with their dear friend.
Cathy was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Dominick Joseph and Anna McDermott White and maternal grandparents William and Mary Allman Spray. She was also preceded in death by her uncles Joe Spray, Dick Spray, and Eugene Baker and aunts Joanne Baker and Mary Catherine Newbrough.
She was a devout and life-long member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Leading Creek, WV, and valued her faith, praying the rosary every day. She enjoyed working on church projects, even coordinating the construction of a stone grotto for the Blessed Mother.
She graduated with her Bachelor’s in Education from Glenville State College and earned her Master’s Degree in Education from West Virginia University. She started her teaching career working for RESA VII. For more than two decades she was the homebound teacher for the Lewis County Board of Education where she loved serving students and forging special friendships with her colleagues.
Cathy was known for her philanthropic work in the community. She had a kind and giving spirit and was actively involved in numerous civic and community activities and organizations. She valued the importance of hard work and enjoyed working on landscaping and gardening projects.
Cathy was a former student, parent, and Advisory Council member at St. Patrick’s Elementary School. Under her leadership, she secured the school’s first playground.
Friends were received at the Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service at 144 Hackers Creek Rd. in Jane Lew, on Friday, February 23, 2018, from 1—8 p.m., with the rosary being prayed at 8 p.m. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Patrick Catholic Church at 11 a.m., on Saturday, with Father Joshua Stevens and Reverend James R. DeViese Jr. serving as co-celebrants. Interment followed in Machpelah Cemetery in Weston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Patrick’s Elementary School, 224 Center Avenue, Weston, WV 26452.
