BOE Announces Student Enrollment Growth

Enrollment in Lewis County Schools has increased slightly from the 2016-17 school year. Supervisor Grace Tallhammer told the board that pre-school enrollment increased from 158 students last year to 180 this year.
The Lewis County High School boys’ and girls’ soccer teams were recognized for winning sectionals. Both teams will compete in regionals this Thursday.
Jane Lew Elementary School and Peterson-Central Elementary School paving projects are now complete. The concrete work at LCHS began, and doors have been ordered for the high school, as well.
The WV BOE adopted nine policies at its October meeting, one of which concerns the attendance policy. Beginning Nov. 13, students who have accumulated five unexcused absences will receive a letter in the mail.
Under the old policy, letters were mailed after three unsecured absences.
The next BOE meeting will be Nov. 13, at 6 p.m., at the central offices.
