BBQ Bash Set to Return to TALA in 2018

Organizers of the Almost Heaven BBQ Bash announced last Wednesday that the BBQ Bash will once again return to the grounds of the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum (TALA) June 15-16, 2018.
Prior to this announcement, there was some skepticism about whether or not the event would return to Weston, following a Weston City Council meeting, in which organizer Jody Light asked if officials were in support of the BBQ bash. At that meeting Councilman Dr. John Wyllie, responded later that the city was in support of the bash and wanted it to return.
Light and the rest of the BBQ Bash organizers held a meeting last Wednesday to gather officials from Lewis County and other organizations to announce the return. The meeting was also slated to ask for involvement and input from businesses, government bodies and citizens.
A wide range of representatives attended the meeting, including Lewis County Commission, Lewis County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Lewis County Chamber of Commerce, Jane Lew City Council, Weston City Council, Weston Rotary, The Weston Democrat, TALA and more.
The BBQ Bash will be selling raffle tickets for a whole hog (butchered and vacuum packet), as their first fundraisers this year.
This year, the BBQ Bash brought in thousands of people to Lewis County, which led to several area hotels booking almost to capacity.
“It was great seeing everyone come together at the meeting. I think the group assembled are really wanting to help us [organizers] make the event a success yet again,” said Light.
Organizers plan to add events to the BBQ Bash and also keeps some events that have been a success at the BBQ Bash, including Pig Mania, a cement pig decorating contest, which businesses and organizations compete to see whose pig wins the most votes. This past year Pig Mania was won by Lewis County First and the pig was painted by Chelsea Wood.
